Like many families, I have seen how quickly a school-issued iPad or Chromebook becomes the default tool for learning, even for our youngest students. The research is hard to ignore. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends strict screen limits for young children, large international studies (OECD, 2015) have found that heavy classroom device use does not improve learning, and reading comprehension is consistently stronger on paper than on screens.

I am asking the Board to reduce daily screen time across all grades, end 1:1 iPad and Chromebook use in the early elementary grades, and reinvest in real books, paper, and hands-on, teacher-led instruction. I would also welcome a clear public report on how much time D39 students currently spend on devices each day.
